The island is essentially quiet and has a relaxed atmosphere both by day and by night. Bozcaada provides a retreat from the brashness of urban life and there lies it's appeal to so many visitors.
True, there are a sprinkling of bars but they are small and unobtrusive so don't come here looking for a buzzing nightlife or clubbing scene because there isn't one!
Rather, you will find friends and families gathered around tables taking long, leisurely meals either down by the harbour or in one of the delightful restaurants that hug the street corners. Mealtimes are an important part of Turkish culture, social occasions not to be hurried and this is very evident as you step out in the evening.
Long after the mezes, fish and salads have gone they still linger over a glass of wine or raki not wishing for the day to end. Conversations carry on until the early hours often culminating in some impromptu music as visitors and locals alike burst into song and you can be sure that a guitar or a saz (Turkish lute) is always close to hand.
If your taste is 'livelier and louder' then head off to one of the bars but remember that these don't usually get going until well after midnight.
